Rise & Dine:
Breakfast & Brunch in Ogden
By Feature Writer Darren Nelson for My Local Utah.
Ogden, Utah, is home to a lively and diverse breakfast and brunch scene. Whether you’re in the mood for classic comfort food, creative dishes, or international flavors, you’ll find plenty to satisfy your cravings. The following spots each bring something unique to Ogden’s culinary landscape—no fast food or chain restaurants here. One thing is certain: there’s something for every breakfast lover to enjoy.
The Rusted Spoon
Looking for pork chops and eggs? Look no further than Ogden’s north end. The Rusted Spoon is a beloved neighborhood spot, known for its hearty American breakfast classics and welcoming atmosphere. The menu is full of diner favorites, with something to satisfy every craving. If you’re after delicious food, friendly service, and great prices, this is the place to be.
Slackwater Pub & Pizzeria
A pizzeria might not be the first place that comes to mind for breakfast, but Slackwater Pub & Pizzeria serves up a delightful Sunday brunch. Conveniently located off the 24th Street exit, it features a spacious outdoor seating area, perfect for a laid-back and enjoyable meal. A must-try is the “Californication” breakfast specialty—poached eggs perched on butter-toasted English muffins, layered with creamy avocado spread and peppered bacon, then smothered in zesty lemon hollandaise and topped with seasoned grape tomatoes. And if you’re still hungry, come back later for some incredible pizza!
Rosa’s Cafe
Craving chorizo or delicious Huevos Rancheros? Look no further than Rosa’s Cafe, a hidden gem in Ogden’s breakfast scene. Nestled on Washington Blvd, this local favorite delights patrons with its exceptional menu, creating a sense of discovery with every bite. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular, Rosa’s culinary offerings never disappoint
Sonora Grill
For a brunch with a kick, Sonora Grill serves up flavorful Mexican-inspired dishes. From burritos and Bloody Marys to scrambles and mimosas, there’s something to satisfy every craving. The chorizo Papas con Huevos is worth the visit. Don’t miss finishing your meal with their delectable sopapillas.
Garden Grill at HGI
Guests at the Hilton Garden Inn at 23rd & Washington Blvd. have had one up on the locals for a while. You see, what most locals don’t realize is that the Garden Grill at the hotel is a full-service breakfast restaurant, not simply the continental breakfast offered to guests by most hotels.
No-Frills Diner
An iconic breakfast spot in Ogden, this laid-back, retro diner was once a locals-only favorite on the north end of town with a loyal following. The pandemic gave the owners the chance to move to the heart of Historic 25th Street. Now a breakfast and lunch hotspot, it closes in the late afternoon. Everything is made fresh to order and be sure not to miss the shakes—there’s nothing better than an ice-cold shake to wash down a savory breakfast.
UTOG Brewing Company
If you love French toast, UTOG is the place to be for Sunday brunch. Every week, they serve up a unique, gourmet twist on this classic dish. Prefer something savory? Bring your appetite and order the Bubba—just be sure to have a few friends ready to share. And if the cranberry butterscotch French toast is on the menu, don’t miss out. Delicious!
Harp & Hound
If you’re in a group that needs to satisfy a range from vegan to carnivore, Harp & Hound is your place. Vegans swear by the plant-based brunch menu, while meat eaters crave the offerings on the omni brunch menu. Plenty of tasty dishes to try here, like the Corned Beef Hash, Breakfast Tacos, and the French Toast made with sourdough bread. Some specialty liquid libations are also available to wash it all down.
Scrambled!
Head north on Washington Blvd., and you’ll find Scrambled, a lively breakfast spot serving up great Daily Rise coffee. Kick off your day with the Double Trouble breakfast plate—double the eggs, bacon, sausage, or ham. They also offer tasty omelets and plenty of all-veggie options for a lighter start. Good food and an affordable option for the whole family.
Moore’s Family Restaurant
Moore’s Family Restaurant is all about breakfast, opening bright and early at 7:00 a.m. and closing at 2:00 p.m. This classic eatery on Ogden’s south side serves up generous portions of all your breakfast favorites. If you’re in the mood for home-cooked comfort food, this spot is sure to hit the spot.
Lee’s Diner
Located on Ogden’s north end, Lee’s is a go-to breakfast spot serving all the classics. Craving biscuits and gravy, country-fried steak and eggs, or a hearty omelet? They’ve got it all. With generous portions and budget-friendly prices, it’s a perfect choice for families looking for a satisfying, home-style meal.
Cuppa
Looking for something on the lighter side. Cuppa offers a wide variety of premium organic teas and coffees. Great place to find a cozy spot or corner to work or relax. Our best ideas are born from happy, peaceful moments, and we aim to create plenty of those for you. You don’t have to be vegan to appreciate lots of healthy, organic veggies as a local food option.
Kaffe Mercantile
Locals lovingly call it “The Merc,” a cozy coffee shop nestled in an east-bench neighborhood. It’s the perfect spot to kick off your day with a variety of teas, coffees, and espressos, paired with light breakfast options. The Waffle Sandwich, along with a Mocha Latte or an Italian soda, comes highly recommended. And don’t forget to treat yourself to a sweet bite from their baked goods selection, like a Cherry Turnover, Lemon Bar, or a delicious Magic Bar (if you know, you know).
Farmers Market Ogden
One more breakfast option to keep in mind is the Farmers Market. If you’re in town on a Saturday from late May to mid-September, spend your morning on Historic 25th Street, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. Enjoy coffee from Ogden’s top cafés, live music from local talent, fresh seasonal produce, and a variety of delicious offerings from talented food artisans.
Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Ogden’s breakfast and brunch spots offer a delicious mix of flavors and experiences, guaranteeing a satisfying start to your day.
