ILLUMINATE: A Festival of Light and Technology
By Darren Nelson, feature writer for My Local Utah
Looking for something different to do this weekend? Check out “ILLUMINATE,” a festival of light art in downtown Salt Lake City. All the festivities will be happening around Library Square and the City and County Building (200 E. will be closed to vehicles between 400 S. and 500 S.)
ILLUMINATE will run both Friday and Saturday, November 11 – 12, from 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm. Admission is free
The event is presented by the Utah Arts Alliance, which says the following:
Artists working with technology and using light as their medium will use the city as their canvas to create projection-mapped artwork, light art displays, and exhibits at the festival’s new location at Library Square and The Leonardo. The 2022 theme is Mother Nature, a look at environmentalism from the ecofeminism lens. We will explore local issues, like the diminishing Great Salt Lake, and global themes of healing and change.
“ILLUMINATE: Light Art & Creative Tech Fest 2022” is the first of its kind in the area. This free celebration of innovation and imagination will inspire artists, art lovers, and families. Come explore downtown Salt Lake in a whole new light.
There will be plenty of food and drink there too, as many local food vendors will be in attendance. Local beers and spirits will also be served to those 21 and older with a valid ID.
