The Ogden Way Podcast
Conversations Speaking into the Heart of Ogden
By feature writer Darren Nelson for My Local Utah
Launched in January 2025, “The Ogden Way” podcast offers a close-up look at the spirit of Ogden, Utah, through the voice of Mayor Ben Nadolski. Stepping into the role after two terms on the Ogden City Council, Nadolski uses the platform to highlight the people who help shape the community and the impact they make.
The podcast takes its name from Ogden’s guiding framework, “The Ogden Way,” which centers on service, growth, and collaboration within the community. New 40–45-minute episodes are usually released weekly and can be found on major platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube.
Podcast Themes and Structure
At its core, the podcast highlights grit, resilience, and community unity, reflecting the city’s seven pillars of human success: safety, education and lifelong learning, strong neighborhoods, a vibrant economy, reliable infrastructure, healthy lifestyles, and meaningful relationships. Each episode typically features a one-on-one conversation with a local leader or community member, from police chiefs and educators to artists and small-business owners. Each conversation focuses on personal stories, service, and Ogden’s cultural identity, avoiding overt politics and emphasizing human connection.
Notable Episodes and Guests
The series also features occasional “Flip the Script” episodes, where Nadolski’s wife, Jaynee, steps in as host to interview him about timely city priorities such as park planning, affordable housing, and global partnerships. With more than 40 episodes now available, standout conversations include Weber State University President Brad Mortensen discussing educational collaboration and sustainability expert Bill Reed exploring regenerative community development. These episodes broaden the range of voices while reinforcing Ogden’s identity as a resilient mountain town.
Community Engagement and Reception
Created to help bridge divides in Ogden, one of the most diverse communities along the Wasatch Front, the podcast invites listeners to broaden their perspectives and engage beyond their usual circles. City officials acknowledge its value in spotlighting positive community impact. It functions as a transparent, approachable way to connect with the mayor while inspiring civic pride and participation
As Mayor Nadolski explains, “The podcast is about celebrating the incredible people who make our community strong.” It features genuine conversations that spotlight determination, connection, and a shared purpose. Rooted in “The Ogden Way” framework, which aligns city efforts with community needs to expand opportunity, the podcast’s longer format makes space for thoughtful, unhurried dialogue.
Beyond individual stories, the podcast addresses broader community issues with empathy and optimism. The mayor’s approach avoids politics, focusing instead on uplifting the Ogden community with positive stories about human connection. The podcast is helping to build trust between the city and its residents, encouraging listeners to think critically.
