Located in the heart of downtown Magna, Utah, the Empress Theatre is a historic landmark that has been a cultural cornerstone since its opening in 1916. Originally serving as a burlesque venue for local miners, it later transitioned to silent films and talkies before closing in the 1950s. After decades of dormancy, the theater was revitalized in 2006 by the Oquirrh Hills Performing Arts Alliance (OHPAA), a dedicated nonprofit organization. Today, the Empress Theatre operates as a 178-seat community theater-in-the-round, offering a diverse lineup of musicals, plays, and youth productions. The venue is entirely volunteer-run, reflecting a strong commitment to community engagement and the arts. Its Neo-Classical and Beaux-Arts architectural design has earned it a place on the National Register of Historic Places, making it not only a hub for live performances but also a cherished piece of Magna’s heritage.
