In August, come to The Monarch on the 21st for the Bowl-a-thon! In October, Weber State University is restocking their food pantry by hosting an Empty Bowls event at the Eccles Art Center. For a $20 donation, patrons will receive a hand-made bowl and a small meal of soup, bread, chips and salsa, and dessert. Other tickets are available for higher tiers of quality bowls ($30 and $50). Premium items from high-end potters are available for auction. But first, the bowls need to be made!
The Bowl-a-thon is a special event where the public is able to work with seasoned potters to make a bowl on the potter’s wheel. The bowls are fired at Weber State’s ceramic studio and offered for sale at Empty Bowls. ANYONE can make a bowl, experience or not! Mark your calendars for August 14th, 15th, and 16th. The first two days are public events where participants make bowls with the help of professional potters. The third day, potters add the finishing touches to the bowls. To help with making bowls, donating bowls, working the event, performing at the event, donating food or merch to the event, or many other volunteer options, contact Monica Linford at [email protected].
Youth Impact Ogden is a non-profit after school program for kids since 1992. Youth Impact is more than just after-school daycare. They offer transportation to over 30 schools in the Ogden area. Programs include STEM, gardening, sports, Learning Center, and Arts & Crafts. A hot dinner is served, and students are given a ride home right to their front doors. Each year, a Casino Night at The Monarch is held to raise funds for this incredible program. Funds go to building improvements and supplies for programs to continue. Each year patrons are invited to attend a swanky and seriously fun night of drinks, cards, and casino. This year, on September 8, join us at 6 pm for a Gatsby-themed night of fun.
Join The Monarch in September for the Second Saturday Market with Ogden Contemporary Arts Block Party to help raise money for OCA, Ogden’s local Ogden’s Art Community This Fall, celebrate the changing season by contemporary arts gallery. 25th Street above Washington will be filled with local vendors, yummy food trucks, live music and best of all, art! Come from 12-6 on September 9 and enjoy a Saturday for the arts!
This Fall, plan to visit Bloom in Studio 3 during Open Studio Night this Fall! Bloom is a part of an amazing operation called PARC, which provides a day program for disabled adults, as well as opportunities for them to work in the community. “We wanted to give EVERYONE the opportunity to share their unique skills and abilities not [be] defined by the [social norms and typical] working standards, while also being able to make money,” manager, Taysha, says. A nonprofit organization, PARC is funded by grants and donations. The participants gain so much, like crafting skills, interacting with people in a job setting and selling skills, but also benefits like friendship, confidence, and the knowledge that they can do something they maybe never thought they could. Not to mention a paycheck! (ALL sales go to them!) They specialize in soap, cards, and home decor. Each item is labeled with the name of the person who created it, so customers begin to feel that connection. Taysha says, “I wanted to get a studio at The Monarch to not only show our participants that they have the ability to create in a place like that amongst other artists, but also to give our community a way to interact and work alongside people with disabilities. Most people feel comfortable around art. It has a certain feeling of freedom of expression. We can connect through art no matter our differences.” She continues, “[A lot of people can be] scared to interact with people who have disabilities, especially severe disabilities because they either don’t know how or they are afraid they may do something offensive. Bloom is an ice breaker.” Taysha plans to have her products in more stores and specialty boutiques like the Art Box as the program grows but invites everyone to visit them in Studio 3!
