Local Restaurant Owner Keeps Giving Back
Clearfield, Utah, 12/10 – As restaurants across America struggle, one Clearfield restaurant owner will continue to make sure no family goes hungry during the holiday season.
According to a survey by the National Restaurant Association, nearly 1 in 6 restaurants is closed permanently or long term. The industry is on track to lose $240 billion in sales by the end of the year.
In spite of dealing with the challenges of Covid-19, the owner of Manuel’s El Burrito in Clearfield will be giving bean and cheese or meat and bean burritos to families in need. “It’s our way to give back to the community that has served us over the years,” says Manuel Gallegos, Jr.
Located on Main Street in Clearfield, Manuel’s El Burrito has a history of engagement with the local community. They have provided scholarships and food to underprivileged community members since the restaurant opened in 1976.
For the month of December, El Burrito is teaming up with Open Doors, a non-profit organization designed to assist local families in providing long-term solutions to poverty and self-reliance. “This year has been difficult not only for small businesses but for families as well. We hope to relieve some of that pressure by providing families with a meal,” says Gallegos.
There are two ways El Burrito is helping with the giving spirit. Customers can purchase ornaments on a Christmas Tree inside the restaurant to purchase a meal for a family. The restaurant also will provide free burritos Monday through Wednesday from 3 – 5:30 p.m. Families in need may call the restaurant between 2-4 p.m. to place an order (maximum of eight per family).
